Serving in Iraq and Afghanistan from 2003 to 2011, Marine Elliot Ackerman returned home to write a debut novel called “Green On Blue,” loosely based on his experiences but with a unique spin. As the author said, “The war in Afghanistan is presented heavily through the American experience, and Afghans are made nearly invisible or treated as props. So my goal was to write a novel completely from their perspective.”
