Sisters-in-laws Fatima, Azeema, and Kiran Maniya went through four elimination rounds to finally win the first season of ABC’s reality cooking competition Family Food Fight. The family took home a whopping $100,000 plus the title of “America’s No. 1 Food Family.”
Producers first became aware of Fatima Maniya’s blog Trippin Mommy, and invited her and her family to compete. Though Fatima had to convince her sisters-in-laws to go on the show in the first place, the ladies soon became fan favorites.
“We all wear headscarves, and we felt that we were carrying Muslim women in general on our shoulders,” says Fatima. “We were happily surprised that on all the social media outlets, we got so much support. It was overwhelming and heartwarming. We went there to cook but in the end, we won some hearts.”
