The Dardenne brothers are art-house darlings, having co-directed “Two Days, One Night” (starring Marion Cotillard) and “The Kid with a Bike,” twice-winning the prestigious Palme d’Or. They premiered their new film “The Unknown Girl” at this year’s Cannes Film Festival which is described by the Guardian as “a study of a guilt-stricken doctor digging up information about a dead immigrant.”
Co-Director Luc Dardenne talked about the decision to make one of the detective characters a Muslim woman from Moroccan descent. “Maybe Muslim women; women [in general] are the future of society, I truly believe that. They feel responsible and they are free and make a society move forward.”
