Patricia Rayborn is a very committed Christian woman. Her daughter, Alana, converted to Islam as an adult which was a “profound shock” for Mrs. Rayborn. The two often fought over their faiths, trying to one up each other over Bible vs Quran verses. Alana said that the two just weren’t listening to one another. “We could not find a way to about faith in a calm and emotionally healthy, safe way.”
Mrs. Rayborn is a journalist and suggested that they write a book together “about their issue” which they did… Undivided: A Muslim Daughter, Her Christian Mother, Their Path to Peace. Mother and daughter both found writing the book cathartic and have since healed their relationship and their differences. “I would recommend that everyone does it at some point,” says a chuckling Alana.
