ArchDaily presents a listicle of the top ten historical sites in Iran. The architecture blog makes the point that most travelers might not have the opportunity to visit the country, given the current political situation, and thus many of these stunning architectural wonders are unfortunately kept hidden from the world.

The blog continues: “Iran’s history is exceptionally complex, layered with dynasties and rulers whose influence extended way beyond modern-day Iran. These sites, therefore, are physical memories of the rich culture that underpins Iranian people today… Sacred sites for the Zoroastrians, for example, are still visited and remembered, despite the restrictions placed upon them by the Iranian government. The essences of these sites provide opportunities to learn about and empathize with the history of Iran, beyond what we hear in the news.”

Be sure to check-out the fantastic photos of the following sites:

1. Shah Mosque, Isfahan
2. Ali Qapu Palace, Isfahan
3. Nasir-ol-Molk Mosque, Shiraz
4. Golestan Palace, Tehran
5. Persepolis, Shiraz
6. Earth City of Yazd
7. Naqsh-e Rustam Necropolis, Shiraz
8. Qavam House, Shiraz
9. Tower of Silence, Yazd
10. Khaju Bridge, Isfahan
