Halim Clinic is a newly opened free clinic in Holland, Ohio. It first started as an initiative by Muslim doctors in the area who wanted to provide clinical services free-of-charge to patients who cannot afford insurance. “We had a meeting and said basically, ‘We need to look for opportunities to give back to our community, our neighbors,’ and this idea of starting a free clinic was hatched,” said Dr. Sulaiman Abawi, an emergency medicine physician at Fulton County Health Center.
Participating doctors represent a variety of medical specialties and ages. Some are retired, while others have full-time practices and are raising families. “We are part of this community like everybody else,” said Dr. Abawi. “We care about our community and care about our neighbors. What better way to exemplify that than use to our talents, abilities, and education to give back?”
