Umair Shah is an ER Physician and the Executive Director of the Public Health Department in Harris County (Houston), Texas.
His experiences leading relief efforts after Katrina and international medical missions have served him well. Earlier this year, while the country was still learning about Covid-19, Dr. Umair and his team were busy preparing for the virus. He has also overseen the building of an emergency hospital at the Astrodome, trying to minimize Corona’s impact on Houston.
Dr. Shah has made many media appearances and says he doesn’t like to use the term “social distancing” but rather has coined the catchy phrase “socially together, spiritually together, and physically apart.”
