“If I didn’t have my religion and belief in god I would really struggle in life because that’s where I get my strength from,” says British kickboxer Ruqsana Begum who is known for “changing the game” by becoming the only female Muslim national champion in her sport.
Ruqsana says that her short-term goal is to move onto conventional boxing. ‘Women’s boxing is really taking off. I want to see what I can do.” She’s also pursuing business opportunities and in 2012, launched a line of sports hijabs that are made of Lycra and doesn’t require a safety pin to hold it together. “I want to help more Muslim women participate in sport,” says the athlete.
Director David Leon captures all the obstacles and hurdles that has made Ruqsana a champion and role model in this #MustWatch video.
